Lufthansa has an excellent reputation for its first-class service and cabin, but its current business-class seat is a little closer to average. It’s a good lie-flat product, but slightly behind the times with a dense 2x2x2 configuration.
Lufthansa Airlines pilots are extending their strike until Friday, March 19th. Lufthansa is expected to operate 75 percent of their flights. Short and medium haul flights will most likely be the flights affected by the pilot strike.
Lufthansa cancelled about half of its flights scheduled for Wednesday as pilots began the first day of a two day strike in which they are seeking retirement benefits. Wednesday’s strike predominately affected shorter flights, while Thursday’s scheduled strike will affect longer haul flights and cargo flights.
On Thursday, Pilots grounded about half of the scheduled long-haul flights over a dispute with the airlines about an early retirement scheme. Domestic and European routes were not affected by the strike.
Lufthansa had to ground two-thirds of its flights on Monday as pilots went on another strike. More than 2,100 flights were grounded as Lufthansa found pilots willing to take care of 700 flights. Short-haul routes and intercontinental flights have been affected. Some of the U.S. cities where Lufthansa has canceled flights because of the strike include New York JFK, Los Angeles, Washington Dulles, Boston and Miami.
Pilots were planning their fourth strike for Tuesday. Those plans were cancelled when Lufthansa announced a special flight plan on their website that would allow all 40 long haul flights to depart during the strike.
Lufthansa pilots will stage a strike for eight hours at Munich Airport on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. The strike will occur from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday. Lufthansa pilots will cease all operations and work at Munich Airport.
Lufthansa has posted a long list of short and medium haul flights to and from Germany’s Frankfurt Airport in anticipation of the German pilot’s scheduled strike beginning September 5th from 5pm to 11pm local time. The strike could affect up to 200 flights, as well as disrupt schedules elsewhere.
