US airlines show improvement in annual study

DALLAS (AP) — Airlines are getting better at sticking to their schedules and are losing fewer bags. Their customers seem to be complaining less often.

Those are the findings of an annual report on U.S. airlines’ quality released Monday by researchers at Wichita State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

DIA awards $120 million contract to revamp checked baggage screening

Denver International Airport and the Transportation Security Administration are set to begin a $120 million renovation on an underground level to consolidate the final screening of checked bags.

The City Council on Tuesday night approved a three-year contract for that amount with Lakewood-based Ludvik Electric Co., the main contractor.

Southwest weighs extra fees, just not on bags

The bags are safe. Beyond that, however, Southwest Airlines might start charging fees for other things in the foreseeable future.

CEO Gary Kelly told analysts and reporters Wednesday he has “no thought whatsoever” to starting charging bag or change fees. Southwest markets its lack of those fees to help it stand out against its more fee-heavy rivals.

American Offers Real-time Luggage Tracking on Website

American Airlines is offering customers the ability to track luggage in real time through the carrier’s website. Passengers can access the “Track Your Bags” page on American’s website, where they will be prompted to enter their surname and PNR or bag tag number. The service is available for domestic flights and some international flights.
