If you’re trying to breeze through the airport, then don’t check a bag. That’s simple. But sometimes, you can’t help it, and even the savviest travelers are left waiting for their suitcases to flop onto the carousel at baggage claim. For decades, people have wondered how to get their luggage off that return belt first. But is there really any way to do it?
DALLAS (AP) — Airlines are getting better at sticking to their schedules and are losing fewer bags. Their customers seem to be complaining less often.
Those are the findings of an annual report on U.S. airlines’ quality released Monday by researchers at Wichita State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Denver International Airport and the Transportation Security Administration are set to begin a $120 million renovation on an underground level to consolidate the final screening of checked bags.
The City Council on Tuesday night approved a three-year contract for that amount with Lakewood-based Ludvik Electric Co., the main contractor.
SINGAPORE — Electronic bag tags, a bag-check robot and a biometric solution for ticketing and screening were among the innovations on display at the Future Travel Experience Asia Expo held here in late October.
The bags are safe. Beyond that, however, Southwest Airlines might start charging fees for other things in the foreseeable future.
CEO Gary Kelly told analysts and reporters Wednesday he has “no thought whatsoever” to starting charging bag or change fees. Southwest markets its lack of those fees to help it stand out against its more fee-heavy rivals.
American Airlines is offering customers the ability to track luggage in real time through the carrier’s website. Passengers can access the “Track Your Bags” page on American’s website, where they will be prompted to enter their surname and PNR or bag tag number. The service is available for domestic flights and some international flights.
According to Southwest Airlines’ CEO Gary Kelly, the free-bag policy is not going anywhere. Southwest will continue to offer it’s passengers at least one free check bag to all passengers, which makes them the only airline to offer this amenity.
Delta’s guarantee of returning checked bags to passengers on domestic flights within 20 minutes will remain a permanent feature, the airline said. The program began in February on a limited basis, but Delta said positive customer response convinced it to make the program permanent.
